News from K1/Hummingbirds: Monday 29th October to Friday 16th November 2012
We have begun our second unit of inquiry, Dress Up Time! The central idea is: ‘Clothes can reflect who we are, where we live and what we do. We have been exploring Question1: What clothes do people from different cultures wear? We have been exploring other culture’s clothing. We have also been talking about the clothes we are wearing each day and about the different fabrics they are made of. We have had fun dressing our body cut outs in smart and pretty Zclothes.
• Thank you to parents for supporting the children in dressing-up for Halloween day. They all looked great and we had a fun day making pumpkins, mixing witch’s brew and getting a super treat bag to take home.
• A reminder that Show and Tell is a very important part of the learning process. Please make sure your child brings a piece of clothing, a picture of clothing or a picture of themselves in clothing for weather or an activity.
• K1 /Hummingbirds’s Library day is Fridays. You must return the library book to get another one.
• Thanksgiving day is Thursday 22nd November when we give thanks for all the things we have. The children will enjoy a traditional lunch.

Other Curriculum Areas

If your Clothes have any red, Here we go round the Mulberry Bush (adapted), John had great big waterproof boots on, Mary wore a red dress and Bananas in Pajamas.
Thai: In Thai class the students will be learning vocabulary and language skills that relate to our current Unit of Inquiry: Dress Up time under the Transdisciplinary Theme Where we are in Place and time!
P.E. In Physical Education class: As the cooler weather begins to set in, the PE department will no longer continue having swimming on Wednesdays. Swimming will start back again during the months of March/April. From the start of the students new UOI until the Christmas break the K1 and K2 students will be focusing on learning how to stretch and warm-up their bodies properly, before playing an activity. This will lead into the gymnastics unit that will allow the students to be more comfortable with their balance and coordination allowing them to perform some very basic gymnastics maneuvers.
Library: In Library class the children will be listening to stories being read about clothes for different cultures, festivals, weather and occupations.
