A word from Library

Dear Parents and Friends,

A word from the Library

As it is Library policy that students do not borrow books from the library during the holidays, students will not be bringing books home this week. However, hopefully you will all have many opportunities to enjoy some books of your own together during October break.

Below is a link to a great website highlighting the importance of reading aloud to your child everyday. Please take the time to explore the great articles and ideas.

Early next quarter APIS will be hosting our first book fair for the year. Local book company Books@53, will be joining us at both campuses on November 12-14. This will be a wonderful opportunity for students and parents to purchase books and continue to strengthen a love for reading.
Happy reading! :)

Thank you for attending your child’s Parent/Teacher conference.  It is good to get your feedback and talk over successes and challenges.

·        UOI:  Who We Are!  We have been learning about feelings and our likes and dislikes.
·        We talked about our favourite foods, songs and classroom centres.
·        We began assessing the children’s knowledge of what they have learned about themselves during this unit by completing a journal page with picture of themselves doing something in the classroom and saying what they were doing, what they looked like and how were they feeling.
·        After the October break we will begin our second unit of inquiry, Dress Up Time! The central idea is:  ‘Clothes can reflect who we are, where we live and what we do.’
·        During October, November and December we will have opportunities to learn about clothes people wear for different cultures, climates and different jobs as well as clothes we dress-up in for Halloween, Loy Krathong and Christmas.

                                           Show and Tell :

Next term: Dress Up Time! Please bring in clothes/cloth from your own or other cultures or other pieces of clothing, hats, bags, shoes, etc

·        Halloween is coming!  You have the holiday to prepare your child’s costume, if you wish.  Not too scary please and no weapons thank you.

We will have a Halloween Parade on Wednesday 31st October with activities in our classroom.  You are welcome to participate in the parade.

News from Monday 17th Sept to Friday 5th October 2012

News from K1 Hummingbirds
Monday 17th Sept to Friday 5th October 2012.
Unit Of Inquiry:  Who We Are!

We talked about what our bodies can do; counting, puzzles, singing and dancing. We drew a family picture and pasted on a house that looked like our own. Thank you to those parents who sent a real picture of your house.  It makes the task more meaningful and realistic to the children. We had great fun creating a puppet of ourselves.

We learnt about our 5 Senses and had fun tasting and smelling different foods.  Most of us were risk-takers and tried lots of different tastes like sweet, sour, salty and crunchy.  We used our eyes to see many things and our ears to hear different sounds.  We experienced different textures and made a 5 Senses hand to remind us of how important these senses are to our lives.  We have a ‘Little book’ about our 5 Senses to read at home.

Show and Tell is a very important part of the learning process.  Thank you for encouraging your child to bring something of interest and unit related to tell us about.

Swimming: If your child is not well with a cough or running nose, they should not go swimming.  The water is quite cold now.

Halloween is almost here again.  You can prepare you costume over the break ready for Wednesday 31st October.

Parent/Teacher ConferencesYou will be receiving your appointment time for your child’s Parent/Teacher Conference on Monday 15th, Tuesday 16th, Wednesday 17th or Thursday 18th of October 2012 for 30 minutes each family.    Conferences will be held in the second K1 classroom.  If you require a translator please inform the office.  If you need to change the time please inform us.

Thanking you, K1 Team
