News from K1 Hummingbirds August 14 - 24 ,2012

News from K1 TEAM:

Tuesday 14^th to Friday 24th August  . 

Welcome to K1 Hummingbirds for the school year 2012 to 2013 

·        These first 2 weeks we have been getting to know each other and learning the routines of the program.  We would also like to welcome Ms Ng to our K1 Team. 

·        The children have been encouraged to follow the ‘PYP Learner Profile words’ of being inquirers, thinkers, communicators, caring and reflective.

·        They are beginning to learn to take responsibility for their own personal needs and belongings.  On Mondays please assist your child to place his hand-towel on his hook. 

·        We began Thai, PE and Music classes.  We had a visit to the library and learned about borrowing books to take home.  Every child must have a library bag to keep the book safe. 

·        Group time finds the children eager to sing songs, learn the day of the week and talk about their experiences.

·        Unit Of Inquiry:  Who Am I?  Next week we will begin inquiring into

          “Everyday I learn more about who I am, what I can do and how I show feelings.”

·        Show and Tell is a very important part of the learning process.  Please encourage your child to bring something which is special to them next week on their day. Your child’s day is shown on the front of the communication folder.  Every week, this first term, it needs to be something which is special to your child or about themselves.                

·        Meals have been a happy, relaxed time with the children eating well.  Milk is provided by the school at snack time.

·        It is very IMPORTANT that your children wear shorts and PE shoes on Mondays and Wednesdays for safety and agility.   Swimming will begin on Wednesday, September 5, weather permitting and if children are well.   Please wear bathing suits to school under loose clothing.  Classroom requirements for swimming will be further discussed at the Parents Information Day on Thursday 30, 2012.

* Your child must have a separate swim bag so that they recognize their belongings.  Please mark towels and other clothing with your child’s name. 

• We thank you for sending your family photos and photos of your child.  The children enjoy looking at them during the day.  The pictures should be at least 4 x 6.               
• We are looking forward to a year of learning, experiencing new activities and gaining new skills.
